The Crude Life Podcast: MVP Pipeline and Shell Cracker Plant Update from Jim Willis

The Owner of the Marcellus Drilling News gives a boots-on-the-ground update on $15B worth of energy projects.
Jim Willis (far left) moderates a panel at the Northeast Oil and Gas Annual Meeting.

Jim Willis, owner, Marcellus Drilling News gives an update on the MVP Pipeline project as well as the Shell Ethane Cracker Plant in the Marcellus Utica Appalachian Basin.

Willis discusses the MVP Mountain Valley pipeline, a natural gas pipeline that spans 303 miles from West Virginia to Virginia.

The pipeline was originally projected to be completed in 2018 at a cost of $3.5 billion, but it is still under construction and now estimated to cost $6.5 billion.

Various green organizations have brought lawsuits against the pipeline, resulting in delays. However, legislation was passed to complete the pipeline, and the court has been asked to dismiss the remaining lawsuits.

The company behind the pipeline has requested permission to finish the remaining 6% of the project, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has given them the go-ahead. Green groups are challenging the dismissal of the lawsuits.

The interview also dives into what happened with the Shell’s Public Relations with their ethane cracker plant.
