Shell Makes Fourth Oil And Gas Discovery Offshore Namibia

Shell has made a fourth hydrocarbon discovery offshore Namibia, one of the hot spots in offshore exploration right now.

The UK-based supermajor said on Wednesday that it had confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons in the fourth exploration well, Lesedi-1X, it completed drilling offshore the African country.

"Further evaluation is required to determine development potential," Shell said in a statement carried by Reuters.

Last month, Zoë Yujnovich, Integrated Gas and Upstream Director at Shell, said on Shell's Capital Markets Day that the supermajor would continue with its exploration efforts after making three discoveries in the Orange Basin offshore Namibia in the past two years.

New Mexico Receives $25M for Abandoned Oil, Gas Wells

New Mexico has received $25 million from the federal government to help remedy abandoned gas and oil wells scattered around the state.

The money is a result of recently passed federal legislation.

Earlier this year, Senator Ben Ray Luján introduced legislation aimed at identifying abandoned wells.

The state is hoping that dealing with these wells will create a safer community and more jobs for New Mexicans.

On September 18, 2023 The Crude Life will host it’s Fourth Annual Podcast Party at the Energy Exposition being held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. This year, three energy producing state governors will be joining us.

The Energy Exposition has educated tens of thousands of people in Gillette, Wyoming; Billings, Montana, and Loveland, Colorado, over the last 20 years on procedures, technology, safety, environmental practices, and equipment used in the oil and gas industry.

Exhibitors and Symposiasts represent a wide range of services, including but not limited to, exploration, production, downstream, and all phases of support to the oil and gas industry.

Energy Producing states Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt and Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon will be attending this year’s expo and kick-off party.

LSU Engineering Professor to Improve Offshore Energy Infrastructure Resiliency

Before hurricanes and storms wreak havoc on U.S. Southern coastal cities, they first pass over oil and gas rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, testing their structural integrity.

While the rigs are built to withstand the elements, some storms are just too strong for the aging platforms and pipelines, destroying the structures and taking workers’ lives with them.

Fortunately for the oil and gas industry, LSU Civil and Environmental Engineering Associate Professor Chao Sun is researching how to create resilient offshore energy infrastructure under extreme tropical cyclones and aging issues.

“Thanks to a $76,000 Early-Career Research Fellowship from the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, my long-term research goals are to create safe, multi-hazard resilient offshore energy infrastructure, such as offshore wind farms, oil/gas pipelines, offshore platforms, and other civil infrastructure, such as buildings, bridges, and power transmission/distribution systems threatened by extreme windstorms and structural aging issues,” Sun said.
