How Industry Mergers, Culture Clashes and Cabin Fever Impact the Workplace

“So, you know, that's the first challenge for people is, hey, what are all the ways you might accidentally, unwittingly be causing a bit of mistrust?”

Joe Sinnott, Witting Partners and the host of The Energy Detox Podcast joins The Crude Life to discuss how industry mergers, culture clashes and cabin fever can impact the workplace.

In the dynamic landscape of the modern workplace, culture clashes and industry changes play pivotal roles in shaping organizational dynamics. Sinnott explains how these factors can significantly impact the workforce, affecting everything from employee morale to overall productivity.

As organizations diversify, workplace cultures may clash, leading to conflicts and reduced collaboration.

“And, you know, a lot of times people are unwittingly, you know, damaging some of that trust or creating more separation between them and their stakeholders than they realize,” Sinnott said. “So, you know, that's the first challenge for people is, hey, what are all the ways you might accidentally, unwittingly be causing a bit of mistrust?”

The two discuss how managing cultural conflicts is crucial to fostering a harmonious work environment and promoting creativity.

“And of course, you know, the flip side is it can mean opportunity if as an individual or as a corporation, you lean into the realities of constant change,” Sinnott said.

Industry changes, especially in the post-pandemic world, influence organizational culture, demanding adaptability from employees and leadership.

“But the question is, well, what are you conveying?” asked Sinnott. “You know, are you conveying a sense of trust for your team?”

Spiess brought up how a changing marketplace necessitates a workforce capable of embracing diversity, as reflected in evolving industry demands. Sinnott agreed and expanded on the idea.

“And then on the other side of the equation, again, as a coach now, what's fun is, you know, I'm able to establish that trust typically pretty early on with folks,” Sinnott said. “So again, they have somebody that they can just kind of share their thoughts with or, you know, ask a couple of rhetorical questions and almost answer it themselves. But again, have, you know, have themselves be in an environment where they don't have to worry.”
