Trinidad & Tobago Looks to Awaken the Dragon

Trinidad & Tobago is making progress in its efforts to tap Venezuelan gas resources and remains committed to increasing oil and gas production at home, Stuart Young, the island nation’s minister of energy and energy industries, told Petroleum Economist in an interview on the sidelines of the recent Association of International Energy Negotiators event in Houston.

Talks continue over access to Venezuela’s Dragon field, the minister explains, meaning he “is fairly limited” on what he can say, but he adds that “negotiations and discussions are going very well on both sides [with Venezuela and the US]”.

Oklahoma's Oil and Gas Companies Helping Drive Carbon Dioxide Emissions Reduction Actions

Carbon capture projects can help strengthen Oklahoma’s economy by reducing the greenhouse emissions from oil and gas production, power generation and various industrial activities, as discussed in the recent opinion piece “Oklahoma holds potential to be a global leader in carbon removal” (June 22).

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) can help reduce carbon emissions in sectors that are difficult to decarbonize — including cement, steel and manufacturing. CCS technology also can help America reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the energy sector.

A recent study found that over a 15-year period, Oklahoma could create an annual average of up to 2,630 CCS project jobs and sustain 800 ongoing operations jobs at industrial and power facilities while capturing 9.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.

Shell Warns of Big Drop in Gas Trading Results

Shell, the world’s biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) trader, said on Friday second-quarter gas trading results were expected to come in “significantly lower” quarter-on-quarter, though in line with the previous two years’ second quarters.

Wholesale gas prices were volatile in April-June, driven by maintenance in key supplier Norway, where Shell unexpectedly extended an outage at its Nyhamna processing plant.

Shell cited “seasonality and fewer optimization opportunities” as reasons for its lower gas trading result.

The company does not provide figures for its gas trading results or say what proportion of its business it accounts for.

Pipe Nation Now Available on Amazon Prime

Docu-drama depicts crude, raw and real life experiences in the oil and gas field with human interest storylines including family issues, drugs and mental health.

An independent oil and gas movie has been picked up by a major streaming network – Amazon Prime Video.

Pipe Nation, which began production in 2020, was originally meant to be a television series for Netflix, but was dropped at the midnight hour due to the controversy and political issues involving Climate Change and Oil and Gas Development

During the interview with Pipe Nation producer Raoul Bhatt and actor Mike Vickers, they explain how the film was repurposed to a short film for Amazon Prime Video after they expressed an interest in the film.

The film includes real-life stories of pipe liners and addresses issues such as mental health, drug use, and sex in the industry.

First Oil and Gas Lease Sale of 2023 Nets Estimated $14.7 Million in Wyoming

The Bureau of Land Management’s first oil and gas lease sale in over a year netted roughly $14.7 million in Wyoming — about $1.8 million more than last year’s sale.

Wyoming will receive 48% — roughly $7 million — of that revenue.

While Gov. Mark Gordon applauded the lease sale in a Monday statement, he noted that it represents “not even a quarter of a loaf.”
