Nearly 400 People attend Connecting Communities BBQ in Watford City
The BBQs are provided by WRED to strengthen relationships with the communities in the Williston trade region.
“The BBQs are a way to bring these people from each community together, enjoy some good food and good company, and talk about opportunities to keep growing and evolving as a region and show the strength of northwestern North Dakota,” said Sarah Johnson, president of the WRED Board of Directors.
Johnson estimates nearly 400 people attended the free BBQ at the McKenzie County Heritage Park.
“We had an excellent time kicking off the summer with our first Connecting Communities BBQ in Watford City! Our Outreach Committee and Board members really did a great job serving approximately 375 people,” said Johnson.
The BBQs help connect people from different parts of the region. Businesses and organizations can get involved by setting up a booth. WRED is also seeking new members from throughout the area.
“The WRED board consists of active and engaged members of Divide, McKenzie, Mountrail, and Williams Counties, and we welcome memberships from any business or organization that wants to support economic growth and sustainability in our region. We support a diverse amount of new and existing businesses in industries like oil and gas, agriculture, small business, and more!”

OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush's Wanted To Drill For Oil
The ambitions for the Titanic sub went beyond exploration — he said it was his gateway into a multi-billion dollar industry that harvests oil and gas from the ocean.
Stockton Rush, the CEO of the company that ran the now-imploded Titanic submersible, said in 2017 that he aimed for the vessel to eventually help him obtain contracts with companies mining oil and gas from the ocean.
In an interview with business magazine FastCompany, Rush said he expected the demand for tours with his company, OceanGate, to diminish as more wealthy adventurers embarked on deep-sea dives.
The first few dives to the Titanic would fetch the highest prices, but customers would expect to pay less as it became more common for people to see the wreck, Rush told FastCompany.
"The most expensive Virgin Galactic flight is the first one with Richard Branson," he said.
