Badlands Tank Lines CEO using American Entrepreneur Ethics to Grow, Hire and Produce Profit

Old school work ethics and values still producings profits for companies willing to invest in industrial integrity.

Roger Johnson, CEO, Badlands Tank Lines, joins Jason Spiess and Steve Bakken on Townsquare Media SuperTalk KLXX-AM 1270 Talk of the Town to announce their new Bakken assets acquired from Marathon Oil and how Badlands Tank Lines has grown over the past several years.

Johnson also shares a story on the genesis of Badland Tank Lines, including his history in oil and gas. This background created a positive environment for a bean-counting troubleshooter to approach the industry in a new innovative way.

Johnson's interview reminds the listeners that innovation isn't always tangible things like robots and lasers, rather the innovation involved is often the information and the thought-worker's time and energy.

In 2011, Badlands Tank Lines stepped into an operational maelstrom. Crude haulers had flocked to the new shale fields in Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, and North Dakota.

Badlands Tank Lines was founded with more than just trucks in mind. Roger Johnson, president of Badlands and an oil trader himself, realized that his clients didn’t just need transport services. They needed high-quality, timely ticketing information.

That’s when the Badlands team was formed – a skilled information technology team that would soon develop a state-of-the-art ticketing system that put timely information delivery at the forefront of every client interaction.

This ticketing system continued to expand over the years, eventually into dispatching and carrier management systems, allowing Badlands Tank Lines to manage multiple disparate contract carriers and provide a seamless and painless solution to their clients.

When it became clear that the contract model was not sustainable, Roger acquired his own fleet of trucks to deliver more dependable and consistent service.

As of August 2019, Badlands has continued to grow with the acquisition of Twin Eagle Transport, LLC. This purchase has helped position Badlands as one of the largest crude carriers in the industries.
