Filmmaker, writer and host of National Energy Talk Mark Stansberry talks about his experience working in the energy sector with China and Russia and how he noticed the two working together in 2014 on an interesting project.
From China to Russia to Oklahoma, Stansberry was active in the global marketplace.
“I had done work both in Russia and China in the oil and gas industry, primarily the oil and gas in Russia, meeting with the Minister of Energy and Eurasia products back in the 1990s,” Stansberry said. “And then also in the 90’s, it was with the Chinese that were there was a gas natural gas delegation that had met here in Oklahoma and they invited me to go over to to China and I started watching how they they acted on different things.”
The conversation pontificated whether NAFTA or other policies led to a major shift in the global marketplace, one that saw corporations flourish and small businesses disappear.
Through my company, it was called the Oklahoma Royalty Company, I was CEO," Stansberry said. "We were one of the first, at that time, a small company signed an import-export agreement, which were unheard of for small companies, but mainly the big ones, Exxon and others, were working on these."
WOMEN IN ENERGY: Women on the Water
“Working at sea exposes me to peculiar challenges. I appreciate this because it opens my mind, keeps me alert and builds my problem-solving capacity. The versatility in skills obtained at sea is second to none. I get to function in several roles and manage them effectively.
The multicultural environment helps me to manage diversity and appreciate my uniqueness at the same time. It is also a dream come true that I get to travel the world. I always believe in doing my best and letting time take its natural course. In the face of adversity, this usually proves to be true. Giving my best always allows me to stay calm, be human and trust God!”

EMERGING ENERGIES: Nuclear Energy: “Not A Science Problem; It’s A Policy Problem”
The Miss America competition, no longer referred to as a “pageant,” (and certainly not a “bathing suit revue,” as the first competition was christened in 1921), provides the winner with a global platform from which to spread a message she’s passionate about. The current titleholder, Grace Stanke, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in nuclear engineering, representing her home state as Miss Wisconsin and crowned Miss America 2023, has spent the past year advocating for greater use of nuclear energy (“Clean Energy – Cleaner Future”) and inspiring the next generation of female scientists, engineers and mathematicians, so they are not hidden figures.
As she winds down her reign and prepares to crown her successor, Stanke looks back at a whirlwind year that culminated with speaking at the Net Zero Nuclear Summit during the 28th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from late November to mid-December. Once her term is over in January 2024, Stanke will begin working at Constellation Energy Corporation as a core design engineer.
PETRO PROILE: BCK-9 Services Expands into New Canine Services
Dwayne Farris, Black Creek K9 Pipeline Leak Detection, joined Townsquare Media’s Talk of the Town with Steve Bakken and guest co-host Jason Spiess, founder of The Crude Life.
The oil and gas industry is a major economic driver, providing energy and jobs to many countries. As the industry continues to grow, so does the need for safer and more efficient methods to detect and prevent costly pipeline leaks.
A relatively new development that is helping to save the industry money is the use of pipeline sniffing dogs.
These specially-trained dogs are able to quickly and accurately detect leaks in pipelines, reducing downtime and repair costs. In addition, pipeline sniffing dogs (or pipeline leak detection dogs) are an innovative solution to marketing as well as connecting with the masses. Many people love dogs.

SHARE YOUR SUSTAINABLE STORY: New Tech Helps Fracked Wells Produce More Oil & Gas for Less $$
While oil output overall is at record levels, the amount of oil recovered per foot drilled in the Permian Basin of Texas, the main U.S. shale formation for oil extraction, fell 15% from 2020 to 2023, putting it on par with a decade ago. It’s going in reverse. The trend is not our friend. There are a number of reasons for the loss in efficiency (discussed below).
However, new oilfield innovations, which began being implemented more widely last year, have made it possible for fracking to be faster, less expensive, and higher yielding. Those innovations include drilling much longer laterals and using simultaneous fracking (simul-frac).
