The Crude Capital Campaign: Mental Health Matters, Especially in Industry
The Crude Life has supported mental health advocacy for over a decade, will continue to offer a platform and other resources to those in need.
The Crude Life believes in assisting others to eliminate the negative energies associated with mental illness. Our supporters continue to do this by empowering and amplifying their voice to raise awareness of mental health. For over a decade, The Crude Life’s network and platform has been a voice for those suffering from mental health stress, struggles and stigmas.
In 2021, The Crude Life help sponsor Teen Miss North Dakota 2020 Alexzandria Garcia and her platform on Mental Health.
One of her roles was as a special guest Environmental Energy Ambassador at The Bakken BBQ. Alexzandria took the stage in front of 5,000 people and spoke of her challenges of mental health. North Dakota Superintendent of School Kristen Baesler and other local dignitaries surprised Alexzandria and stood along side her on stage in support of her mental health message.
Two weeks later Simone Biles suffered a mental health episode at the 2020 Summer Olympics and the topic became the international collective topic.
At the time, Alexzandria was entering her sophomore year in high school. She’s was the City of Watford City Ambassador Program and is also part of the Little Buddy program where high school students have lunch one-on-one with elementary students who need a little support.
For over 10 years, the Bakken BBQ has been a Summertime Staple for western North Dakota, the energy industry and Bakken community. What started as an idea from Tiffany Steiner and Jackie Jenkin, has morph into one of the biggest fundraising BBQ’s in the Upper Midwest and oil and gas industry.
In order to pull off this event, it takes more than two co-founders, a committee and group of volunteers, no, it takes heart and soul.
This is one of the special energies the Bakken BBQ cooks up. Partnering with other non profits like Make A Wish, has presented some memorable moments at the Bakken BBQ. In addition to highlighting the children and Make A Wish during the event, the Bakken BBQ has also presented several “Gifts” live on stage.

Joe Sinnott, Witting Partners and host of the Energy Detox Podcast, joins The Crude Life founder Jason Spiess to talk about how mental health is part of the oil and gas industry.
From the early days of “throwing some dirt” on your mental health issues to actual programs companies are installing into their company culture.
Sinnott and Spiess also discuss the mental health impacts of a company “using” an employee for marketing purposes – i.e. Women’s History Month or Minority Month. Themed months can become a tricky employment marketing plan as highlighting someone’s interests, genders and cultures once a year can open up new conversations for the other 11 months of the year.
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices
