Oilman Reacts to Landman the Series Episode 5

Episode Five, Where Is Home shows that where you live, sleep and work isn't always the place you call home.

Warren Martin, executive director, Kansas Strong, shares his review of Episode 5: Where Is Home, of the new series Landman streaming exclusively on Paramount Plus.

There was trouble in Texas in the last episode of Taylor Sheridan’s oil drama, and Landman Episode 5, “Where Is Home”, picks up right where we left off – here’s Warren Martin and Jason Spiess with full recap.

Landman Season 1 Episode 5, “Where Is Home,” doesn’t just ask where you live — it asks where you truly belong.

We’re now halfway through Landman, but there’s still plenty more to unfold. Will Angela and Tommy succeed at giving their marriage another shot? Will Monty get a handle on all the shenanigans in Midland? And will Demi Moore actually get something to do or say in this series?

Topics covered in the interview reaction with Warren Martin:

  • Oilfield Logic - episode starts out with some oilfield workers solving life’s problems

  • Trying to get money from a billionaire

  • Did the lawyer become the new villian or patsy with her attempt to manipulate the deceased worker’s 401Ks?

  • The series seems to position Cooper as the All-American Quarterback from the 1950’s as the ideal worker coming into the industry

  • Angela attempts to have a family dinner in Midland

  • Angela’s entitlement economy and emotional rollercoaster in the workplace

  • The infusion of “woke” culture and old fashioned “sexuality”

  • The separation of Source and Produced Product in the oil industry

  • The layered cartel storyline, one thread discussed is whether the series is positioning the oil and gas industry as a “legal cartel backed by the US Army”

  • MTex attorney has become the centered comic relief of the series

  • The pipe accident shows how Hollywood will exaggerate events in order to advance a simple storyline like a workplace accident

  • “We are here to work, Midland isn’t home to any of us”

  • “Do y’all want some popcorn?”

In the heart of Texas, roughnecks and billionaires try to get rich quick in the oil industry; Tommy Norris, a struggling executive, tries to take his company to the top during the fuel boom.

Midland-based Tommy works for a small but lucrative outfit, MTex Oil. The owner, Fort Worth businessman Monty Miller (Jon Hamm) and his wife Cami (Demi Moore).

From Sheridan and co-creator Christian Wallace, the series is based on the podcast “Boomtown” and follows the upstairs/downstairs battle for land, oil and fortune in a West Texas boomtown.

Paramount Plus is the only way to watch the series. Following the premiere, one new installment will arrive every Sunday through Jan. 12.
